Porcelain Plates

Childhood Discovery, The Sisters, Quiet Moments, With the Cats, On the Beach

These porcelain plates are 17.5cm wide, holds liquid, should be wash by hand. These come with a wall hanging disc already attached on the back.

They have the drawing etched and engraved into the porcelain. The lines are then filled with black underglaze, a method known as Mishima or inlay, and a transparent glaze on the front of the wall hanging plate or disc. The drawings are from my sketchbooks from observed life and from looking at art history in museums.

Inspiration

I  am very attached to my family, siblings, my children and these plates remind me of the emotional bond felt by members of a family but it's also about the fun and relaxed nature of time spent staring out to sea or holding a pet or discovering caterpillars on the ground for the first time ever.

The inspiration comes from drawings in my sketchbooks. I love to draw especially in black lines often with a black uni-ball eye, mitsubishi pen. I love the risk I take with the pen, the fact that you can't easily erase it. I draw when out and about, things I see and notice, people, plants, still life. I draw in museums and galleries; I draw in the garden, I draw when I see a bowl of flowers, I draw anything that catches my eye, I love the shapes I can create with line on paper and translating the line on to porcelain, I love cross hatched lines and use them to create different tones.

These porcelain plates are 15- 17.5cm wide. They  are ready to hang with wall hanging discs attached.

They are unique one off artworks. They are available to buy from my website for £60 each plus FREE UK postage. Need a closer look, just contact me below!

I’ll be sharing a short video clip on Instagram of the etched line, inlay or Mishima technique, too.
